How to play Rewind
Which group sang "Dancing Queen"? If that kind of question makes you want to say the answer out loud, Rewind is for you. It is a trivia quiz with ten questions a day, and the whole thing takes a few minutes.
Ten questions, four choices, one right answer
Each day Rewind asks ten multiple-choice questions. Every question has four answers, lettered A to D, and exactly one is right. Subjects run from pop music and television to history, space, sport and food. The first question you ever see has no clock, so you can learn the layout in peace.
After you answer, the card shows whether you were right, a short fact about the answer, and a link to the page where the question was checked.
Answering with a tap or a number key
- On a phone or tablet, touch the answer you think is right.
- On a computer, click an answer or press the number keys 1 to 4 for the first to fourth choice.
- After the reveal, press Enter, or touch the Next question button, to continue.
An answer cannot be changed once you give it, so read all four choices before you commit.
The fifteen-second clock and the speed bonus
Every question after the first runs on a bar that empties over fifteen seconds. A right answer earns 100 points. On top of that you get up to 50 more, in proportion to how much of the bar was left. An answer given with the bar full is worth 150, and one given at the last moment is worth close to 100. A wrong answer earns nothing.
If the bar runs out, the card says "Time's up!" and shows the answer, and the question scores zero. If the clock makes you nervous, switch on relaxed mode in the menu. It removes the clock and the speed bonus, so every right answer is worth exactly 100.
Branches: choosing what to be asked about
By default you get the mix, which draws from every subject. The pill under the title opens the branch picker, where you can choose one or several of more than twenty subjects, from music and television to geography, football and holidays. Your choice is remembered. Two players who pick the same branches on the same day get the same ten questions, and a question does not come back until the whole pool has been used.
Scoring a round in Rewind
A perfect round is ten right answers. The title on the result card depends on how many you got right:
- 10: Perfect 10!
- 8 or 9: Totally rad!
- 5 to 7: Not bad at all.
- Fewer than 5: Tomorrow is another day.
The card also shows your points, your right answers, your streak, and a breakdown of how you did in each branch. When the whole round came from the older music, television, film and moments branches, it is broken down by decade instead.
Bonus rounds and the streak
When you finish the daily ten, a bonus round of ten fresh questions opens two minutes later. The bonus questions come from the same branches you chose and never repeat the day's own. Bonus rounds are extra practice and do not count toward the streak.
Finishing the daily round on a calendar day adds one to your streak. Skip a day and it starts again at one.
Today's board and sharing
If you played the mix, you can post your score to today's board. It ranks right answers out of ten first, and uses speed points to break a tie. Only your first finished go at the day's mix counts. Share sends a row of green and red squares, one for each question, with your points and the number correct. The questions themselves are never included.
Tips for answering faster and better
- Rule out the clearly wrong choices first. The wrong answers are of the same kind as the right one, so look for the detail that gives it away.
- Use the number keys at a computer. They save the time it takes to move the mouse.
- Read the fact after each answer, wrong ones especially. It is the part of the game designed to be remembered.
Rewind questions answered
Can I replay the same ten questions?
Not for a better score. Your day's mix is fixed, and the board keeps only your first finished go. You can still wait for the bonus round for more.
Do I lose points for a wrong answer?
No. A wrong answer or a timeout simply scores zero.
How do I know the answers are right?
Every answer comes with a link to the page where the question was checked. Tap it after you answer.
Does relaxed mode change the score?
It removes the speed bonus, so a right answer is 100 points flat. Your streak still counts.
